Back to the Books reports

With the rising cost of tuition, going to college these days can be expensive. But there are a few ways you can take some weight off your shoulders and get your textbooks for less. 7's Kim Khazei has more in today's ‘Back to the Books.'

Buying a course-load of college books isn't cheap...But you can lighten the load.

Edgar Dworsky, founder of consumerworld.org
"An electronic version of the textbook is probably one of the cheapest ways to do it."

Many textbook publishers let you buy online versions of their books. This marketing book is normally $184 to buy, but a six month electronic subscription is only 92 bucks...A savings of almost a hundred dollars! Some web sites even have a limited selection of books you can download to your computer for free.

And most students know about renting a movie, but what about renting a textbook? Chegg.com rents books for about a third of the normal price..

Edgar Dworsky, founder of consumerworld.org
"You just rent it for a semester and then you send it back."

Another way to get textbooks for less is to use price comparison websites.  They list all of the places you can buy your book with the new and used prices so you can find the best deal.

Edgar Dworsky, founder of consumerworld.org
"You really have to think about what the bottom line price is...So if you buy a book used and then you can sell it back to the bookstore and get some money that might ultimately be the cheapest way to do it."

That way, you'll get the most for your money when you go back to the books.
