Our third place prize takes us out of our shell and up north to the Clam Box in Ipswich.
Marina "Chickie" Aggelakis, Clam Box
"We get lobster in daily."
This historic landmark, that's actually designed to look like a clam box, has been serving up seafood since 1935. Their secret is in their catch...
Marina "Chickie" Aggelakis
"We use tail claw and knuckle as opposed to filler."
The clam box, known for tasty clams, seems to be on a roll with lobster lovers...
Marina "Chickie" Aggelakis
"We could sell about 100 to 150 lobster rolls a day..."
Our second place prize takes us to old Cape Cod and to The Raw Bar in New Seabury's popular Popponesset Marketplace in Mashpee...
The Raw Bar began rolling out the lobster sandwiches 19 years ago.
Bob Weekes, The Raw Bar
"This is our signature thing and we put love into it."
And while it was once local secret it's fast become a tourist favorite.
Bob Weekes
"People have been coming over from all over New England and now they're coming from California, they're coming from everywhere."
The Raw Bar prides itself on fresh lobster, heaping portions and a great atmosphere. And don't even think about a cell phone at The Raw Bar…
Bob Weekes
"If you want a piece of heaven, have yourself a big lobster roll and a frosty cold mudslide at the raw bar and you can sit back and relax..."
But the the "blue ribbon" for New England's Best Lobster Roll goes to Kelly's Roast Beef in Saugus...
And while you may think they're only good for a side of beef, their lobster roll has locals and tourists alike clawing at the door to get it.
Brian McCarthy, Kelly's Roast Beef
"The best quality lobster you can find. That's the secret."
Many places that serve seafood close at the end of the season, but not Kelly's, they serve up over $150,000 lobster rolls 12 months a year...
Brian McCarthy
"With our sandwich we have only the lobster meat, mayonnaise and a tiny bit of celery and in that lobster roll is 8 ounces of meat and that's the equivalent of two one-pound lobsters, believe it or not."
But at Kelly's be sure not to overstuff your plate!
Brian McCarthy
"Don't get a lot more with it because it's a meal... It's a lot more than you can generally eat… And a lot of people will split a lobster roll with a couple of drinks and a side order of French fries."
So the next time you are looking for lobster, wrap your claws around one of "New England's Best".
