Tom Tierney is the Republican candidate for Massachusetts’ 5th Congressional District.
Tom Tierney is a 67-year old consulting actuary and consumer activist who was born in Salem, now lives in Framingham and has been a Massachusetts resident for his entire life.
He's a graduate of: St. Johns Prep. H. S. in Danvers, Mass.; Boston College with a B. S. degree in physics; and Northeastern University with an M. S. degree in actuarial science.
His professional credentials include: fellowship by examination in the Society of Actuaries; enrollment by the U.S. Governments Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries; and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries and the Boston Actuaries Club.
He has worked for the past 30-plus years as a self-employed independent consulting actuary. Prior to that he worked for 12 years for John Hancock and for 3 years with a couple of large actuarial consulting firms. His professional expertise includes areas such as:
medical care financing and delivery systems; Social Security, insurance and retirement benefits; insurance company organization and operation; litigation assistance; and the valuation of contingent assets and liabilities.
