Mass. U.S. senate election: Elizabeth Warren on the issues
Elizabeth Warren believes in investing more in public colleges and universities, supporting advanced technical training programs, and getting serious about strengthening grant programs and forgiving loans for those that serve their communities.
Warren believes it is important to invest in a 21st century energy system that will over time lower the costs of production for all businesses. Warren says that renewable energy competes with old energies that get special breaks from Washington and that we can generate power with alternative energy sources like wind, solar, and hydropower. She believes we can make energy usage far more efficient and that if we commit ourselves to clean energy and energy efficiency now, in the long run we can reduce price swings and lower overall costs.
HEALTH CARE REFORM:
Elizabeth Warren supports health care reform and wants to take action to reduce the cost of health care. Massachusetts has been a leader in developing innovative ways to improve quality while reducing costs and is a leader in medical research that can lead to breakthroughs that save both lives and costs. She believes we must do more to lead the way to a more affordable and higher quality system.
Warren believes we need straightforward rules that any small business can deal with rather than complex regulations. She believes jobs can be created by investing in renewable energy and ceasing tax breaks on dirty energy sources like oil and coal. Furthermore, Warren believes in investing in America’s school systems because good public schools, good public universities, and good technical training can give America a workforce better than any in the world. Warren believes in immigration reform with the following three components:
• It must uphold existing laws, protecting our borders and enforcing our laws against recruiting, hiring, and exploiting undocumented workers.
• It needs to be fair to all taxpayers and to legal immigrants. There should be a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, but one that would require them to pay taxes and go to the back of the line.
• It needs to help us retain talent trained at our world-class institutions and support job creation.
Warren believes women deserve equal pay for equal work. She also believes that women must have the full range of reproductive health care options available to them. This includes access to contraception, maternity and newborn care, and safe abortion services.
