BOSTON (WHDH) -- Relief for Red Sox nation now that Wally the Green Monster costume is back inside Fenway Park.
Boston police said they took a call just after 2 p.m. Friday from someone saying Wally was stolen and the suspect was wearing the costume, headed for downtown Boston.
Police launched a search, as Wally was spotted around town.
“I saw him walking right down the street; I even beeped the horn at him. He waved at me,” said Paul Napier. “He was happy, kind of like a walk kind of skip type thing, but he didn’t look like he was kidnapped and nobody was dragging him or pulling him by the baseball cap or anything.”
John, a limo driver, saw Wally walking down Boylston Street.
“We noticed him around the Apple Store…He was here and we did see him walking around,” said John.
Two hours after he was reported stolen, Wally was found.
The Red Sox said it was an employee who took Wally and it was all a misunderstanding. They said the employee normally wears the costume and took it out without telling his supervisor.
The Red Sox said the employee was just trying to spread a little good cheer around the city of Boston on Friday by wearing the costume.
